Google Chrome
Google Chrome is a cross-platform web browser that was created by the company Google. It was first published for Microsoft Windows in 2008, and it was constructed using free software components from Apple WebKit and Mozilla Firefox. It was eventually ported to Linux, macOS, iOS, and Android, where it is now the operating system's default browser. The browser is also a key component of Chrome OS, acting as a platform for web apps.
Chrome's source code is mostly derived from Google's Chromium open-source software project, but it is licenced as proprietary freeware. WebKit was the initial rendering engine, but Google forked it to build the Blink engine, which is now used by all Chrome variations except iOS.

For the past six years, Google CEO Eric Schmidt has been hostile to the creation of an independent web browser. He added that "Google was a little company at the time," and that he did not want to be involved in "bruising browser battles." "It was so fantastic that it practically drove me to rethink my opinion," Schmidt stated after co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page hired several Mozilla Firefox developers and produced a demonstration of Chrome.
The first rumours of Google developing a web browser surfaced in September 2004. Former Microsoft site developers, among others, were being hired by Google, according to online journals and US media at the time.
